Wigs: More Style, Less Hassle, New You

Black Elephants

The holiday season is upon us with Thanksgiving and Black Friday shopping. The weather goes from the autumn leaves falling to the white winter wonderland of Christmas cards. Falling snow and blowing winds bring out hats, scarves, gloves, and boots. Tis the season of first time and seasoned wig customers alike!

Spring and summer can sometimes be too hot for a wig, especially in the warmer regions, but fall and winter are a great time to try one out. Not only does it double as a hat to keep your head warm, it can keep your neck warm as well (unless it's short wig of course.)

Without having to have your hair chemically processed via perm, relaxer, or dye, you can change your hairstyle to anything your imagination desires. So why not try something new and different? I've seen so many of my wig customers buy the same style wigs over and over again. When I suggest something new, I usually get the same response: Oh no!

Days rather than weeks will pass by, but that small seed of my recommendation sprouts into a large need for change. They come back to try something new. And by breaking out of their little box, they gain something that was slowly slipping away from them: self-confidence.

So ladies, we need to take that step forward even if it is frightening and nerve-racking. By changing how we see ourselves, we change how others see us as well.

Sometimes we need help with the first part and that is when you come see me at the wig store!

Have a blessed weekend!

Price Comparison at Beauty Supply Stores

Black Elephants

We've all seen the price comparisons between Walmart and Target. We've probably done some of our own price comparisons for bigger ticket items in store vs online. But how many of us have done our own comparison shopping for smaller ticket items? Especially at a beauty supply store? Is it worth it, or does the competition bring the price differences down to pennies?

Retail prices varying from state to state is obvious, but prices can fluctuate just as much between stores in the same city or even across from each other. Add into the mix discount cards and sale prices, and we've got beauty supply customers thinking they are saving but really aren't.

We've always joked about clothing stores jacking up the regular price just before putting it on sale. After all, a 50% off sale sounds better than a 10% off sale. Too bad the final price is still exactly the same. (Or may even be higher!)

With Black Friday and holiday shopping fast approaching, don't be fooled by all the big discounts but stay focused on the final price of an item. You don't want to be the girl who "saved" a lot but is broke. You want to be the girl who shopped smart, knew the best prices regardless of discounts, and really saved a lot.

Have a blessed week!

How To Install A Lace Front Wig

Black Elephants

In part 1, we learned how to cut a lace front wig. Now we are ready to learn how to wear the lace front wig so it doesn't LOOK like a lace front or look "wiggy."

Preparation is key. If you want the wig to look real, it needs to lay flat against your head, so make sure your hair is wrapped up, braided up, stocking capped, something! Now, take a look inside the wig and locate all the straps, combs and other attachment points. We will be using them to secure the wig.

Let's start with the adjustment straps. Begin by putting the wig on from front to back, with your head tilted forward. If the wig is too tight, move the straps further from the center. If too loose, move closer to the center. Once the straps are just right, sew them down so they don't pop off later.

Most lace fronts will have combs in the front and back. Begin securing the wig to your head by tucking the combs in the back. For the front combs, we will be doing two things at once: securing the front with the front combs while lining up the lace front hairline with our own hairline.

Stop.

To make a lace front look real and natural, we will be using a very small amount of your real hair. So when lining up the lace front, pull it back just slightly to reveal your hair. Then using a pin tail or rat tail comb, gently pull your hair out from underneath the lace and comb it over to blend in with the lace front hairline.

Shake it and go girl!

Have a blessed weekend!
